“Caring for seniors is a labor of love and requires a special person”
Hi, my name is Janelle and I’d like to tell you a little about myself and why I started Lean On Me Companion Care. My background education and career is as a Licensed Practical Nurse. I worked in acute care settings and also in assisted living facilities. When my husband and I started a family we made the decision that I would stay home to raise our children and manage our home. I am very grateful for the 17 years I had the opportunity to spend with my kids and all that I learned during those years. As my kids became more independent and I was thinking about going back to work outside the home, I asked myself the question, “what did I love about nursing and what am I passionate about?”. Someone once told me that you can figure out what your passions are by noticing what makes you want to cry. I can tell you that when I see an elderly person stooped with their cane walking down a street, I feel tears well up in my eyes. My instinct is to stop my car and go walk beside them. I don’t want them to struggle or feel alone as the busy world passes them by. I have always been drawn to people in their older years, from my grandparents who I spent many hours with to people I have met in different circumstances through life. I have learned especially through my work that the later years of life can be very difficult ones.
People at this stage of life are often experiencing a lot of loss: loss of independence, mobility, health, friends, purpose, spouses and family, motivation, etc. It can be a very vulnerable and lonely time. My desire is to make a difference in some small way by loving and supporting the people that I and my team are blessed to work with. I want our clients to know that they are valuable and that they deserve dignity and respect. I feel that it is a privilege that our clients are willing to put their trust in us and I want that trust to be rewarded with a genuine interest in them and a relationship built. I am very conscientious about the team that I choose because it is extremely important to me that my team share these same values and will treat our clients with that same level of caring. I am extremely proud and inspired by the team that works with me to bring care and joy to our clients.
I did not grow up thinking I would one day own my own business, but I did grow up with a love for people and I feel that this opportunity gives me the chance to exercise the passions and gifts that God has given me.

The Right Choice for The Senior's You Love
Friendship Is Our Foundation
You Matter Too
One of the blessings I have experienced in my business is the unique and special relationship I have developed with the families and loved ones of my clients. I have seen how difficult it can be to navigate the care of a loved one while carrying on with the responsibilities of life. Witnessing changes in the people we love as they struggle with health issues and loss of independence can be very emotional and stressful. Doing your best to provide quality physical care as well as maintaining a relationship is a difficult balance.
It has been so amazing to meet and get to know the people that my clients love the most.
I chose for my logo the three circles, each representing one component of this interconnected relationship that develops between my client, our companioning team, and those who love them. I see us as the middle circle, there to support the client and their loved ones. Our team is rewarded when we take the pressure and workload off of you – allowing you to enjoy your relationship with them. We want to come alongside as a listener, problem solver, and an extra set of eyes. We often feel like we become “family”.
