“Caring for seniors is a labor of love and requires a special person”

Hi, my name is Janelle and I’d like to tell you a little about myself and why I started Lean On Me Companion Care.  My background education and career is as a Licensed Practical Nurse.  I worked in acute care settings and also in assisted living facilities.  When my husband and I started a family we made the decision that I would stay home to raise our children and manage our home.  I am very grateful for the 17 years I had the opportunity to spend with my kids and all that I learned during those years.  As my kids became more independent and I was thinking about going back to work outside the home, I asked myself the question, “what did I love about nursing and what am I passionate about?”.  Someone once told me that you can figure out what your passions are by noticing what makes you want to cry.  I can tell you that when I see an elderly person stooped with their cane walking down a street, I feel tears well up in my eyes.  My instinct is to stop my car and go walk beside them.  I don’t want them to struggle or feel alone as the busy world passes them by.  I have always been drawn to people in their older years, from my grandparents who I spent many hours with to people I have met in different circumstances through life.  I have learned especially through my work that the later years of life can be very difficult ones.

People at this stage of life are often experiencing a lot of loss: loss of independence, mobility, health, friends, purpose, spouses and family, motivation, etc.  It can be a very vulnerable and lonely time.  My desire is to make a difference in some small way by loving and supporting the people that I and my team are blessed to work with.  I want our clients to know that they are valuable and that they deserve dignity and respect.  I feel that it is a privilege that our clients are willing to put their trust in us and I want that trust to be rewarded with a genuine interest in them and a relationship built.  I am very conscientious about the team that I choose because it is extremely important to me that my team share these same values and will treat our clients with that same level of caring.  I am extremely proud and inspired by the team that works with me to bring care and joy to our clients.

I did not grow up thinking I would one day own my own business, but I did grow up with a love for people and I feel that this opportunity gives me the chance to exercise the passions and gifts that God has given me.

The Right Choice for The Senior's You Love

Friendship Is Our Foundation
You Matter Too

One of the blessings I have experienced in my business is the unique and special relationship I have developed with the families and loved ones of my clients.  I have seen how difficult it can be to navigate the care of a loved one while carrying on with the responsibilities of life.  Witnessing changes in the people we love as they struggle with health issues and loss of independence can be very emotional and stressful.  Doing your best to provide quality physical care as well as maintaining a relationship is a difficult balance.

It has been so amazing to meet and get to know the people that my clients love the most.

I chose for my logo the three circles, each representing one component of this interconnected  relationship that develops between my client, our companioning team, and those who love them.  I see us as the middle circle, there to support the client and their loved ones.  Our team is rewarded when we take the pressure and workload off of you – allowing you to enjoy your relationship with them.  We want to come alongside as a listener, problem solver, and an extra set of eyes. We often feel like we become “family”.

What People Say

Testimonials

We are three siblings doing our best to care for our 88 year old Mom, in later stages of dementia.  Janelle and her team have been helping us do that for three years.   Their consistent and gentle care has allowed her to live happily, in her home, far longer than we could have anticipated.   Mom is excited when they arrive and is always ready with a hug and a smile.

Janelle is very knowledgeable about seniors’ care.  She has a keen sense of what Mom needs to be safe and healthy.  She knows what brings Mom joy.  She truly loves our Mom, making special effort to customize the care plan to meet Mom’s unique needs and personality.   Janelle particularly shows her skill and compassion, when the anxiety and confusion of Alzheimer’s rises up.

Janelle has hired like-minded caregivers to bless Mom.  The team works well together, with us being an integral part of that team.  Janelle is an excellent communicator and we brainstorm together, when challenges arise.

We would highly recommend Lean On Me for their expertise, discernment, creativity and compassion.  We are confident that your family will be similarly blessed.

For over 3 years Janelle and members of the Lean On Me Companion Care service have provided compassionate and supportive care for my mom. It started when my mom was still living at home and support from Home Care was not enough. Their support allowed my mom to stay at home for as long as she did. It is like having another family member to help and care for my mom. Their constant communication and updates help me understand how my mom is doing and I appreciate their flexibility to provide a wide variety of services to meet my mom’s changing needs. They have exceeded my expectations over and over again. It’s great to know she is well loved and cared for when I’m not available.

Janelle has been a faithful companion to my mother for over six years.   She is such a compassionate and caring individual, and my mother has grown very attached to her.  Janelle is patient with my mom when she has her bad days, and I don’t think my mom would be where she is today without Janelle’s attentiveness to both her emotional and physical needs.  Janelle has been such a blessing to my mother and our family.  I could not recommend anyone more highly.  Thank you Janelle!

Lean On Me is the most compassionate, reliable and caring companion care company. When my Dad became sick, followed closely by my mom, we were in desperate need of help. We tried several companies. When Janelle was recommended to us by a family friend, we were hopeful. My words cannot possibly express how grateful we are to Janelle, Shirley, Rebecca and Mary. Lean on Me staff go above and beyond in their heartfelt and genuine care. They bring a positive and upbeat energy. Enthusiasm and happiness is showered on mom along with so many fun activities and outings. Mom is comfortable, happy and safe in their hands.  We are beyond appreciative and thankful to have Lean on Me in our lives.  They are truly like family to us.

Janelle was recommended to us as a care companion for our mother about 4 years ago. Our family and aging parents couldn’t have ask for a better fit. Janelle is so genuine, warm and compassionate. She realizes and focuses on the needs and personality of the individual she is caring for. Janelle would take mom out for fresh air in the garden of the nursing home, listen to hymns with her, comb her hair – all things that mom loved. Given her medical background as an LPN, Janelle is aware of and recognizes health issues, and is willing and able to address them (ie wound care, diabetic patch changes, foot care, etc)

Now that mom has passed on, Janelle visits dad on a weekly basis. Dad feels very comfortable with her, and always looks forward to her visits. She has also been able to take dad to some appointments. Janelle is patient, encouraging and is a good listener. She’s the ‘eyes, ears and hands on’ that gives us peace of mind when we can’t be there with him ourselves.

Janelle is a great communicator, and will often update us after her visits with dad to give us her perspective on any changes she may have noticed – invaluable insight. Over the years we have been comforted and reassured by her consistancy, dependability and trustworthiness, and have certainly recommended her to friends. We all consider Janelle a part of the family. Heaven sent.
